Terms and Conditions

About the service

DearMemory is an independently operated, free family reminiscence service. It lets an account owner and authorised family members, friends or carers collect and enjoy photographs, stories, voices, music-related information and profiles of familiar people.

DearMemory is not a medical service, emergency service, care plan, medical-record system or professional care-management platform. It should not be relied on for urgent, clinical or safety-critical information.

Accounts and access

Account information must be accurate and each person should use their own named login. Passwords must not be shared. The Memory Room owner is responsible for selecting permission levels, reviewing access and removing access that is no longer appropriate.

View only, Memory contributor and Family manager accounts have different capabilities. A user must not attempt to bypass their permission level or access another Memory Room without authority.

Consent, dignity and suitable content

Only upload or record material you are entitled or authorised to use. Consider the wishes, privacy, dignity and likely feelings of the person whose life is represented and of other people shown or described. Take particular care with children, health information, bereavement, family conflict and other sensitive matters.

Do not use DearMemory for unlawful, abusive, threatening, discriminatory, exploitative or deliberately misleading material. Do not upload malware or content that infringes another person’s rights.

Family judgement

Favourite, comforting and prepared-journey features are organisational aids, not clinical assessments. Families and carers remain responsible for deciding whether a memory is suitable at a particular time and should stop if the person becomes tired or distressed.

Downloads and backups

Users should keep secure copies of irreplaceable material. Once a memory or Memory Room export is downloaded, its storage and sharing are the user’s responsibility. No free online service can promise permanent or uninterrupted availability.

Ownership handover

The owner may request handover to an eligible Family manager. The recipient must accept through their own account. The safety and recovery controls shown during handover must not be used to obtain control without proper authority.

Availability and support

Reasonable efforts are made to keep DearMemory available, secure and understandable, but uninterrupted operation, error-free performance and compatibility with every device cannot be guaranteed. Features may be changed where needed for safety, usability, maintenance or legal reasons.

Suspension or removal

Access may be restricted or removed where reasonably necessary to protect people, accounts or the service; investigate misuse or security concerns; comply with legal duties; or respond to a serious breach of these terms.

Privacy

Use of personal information is explained in the Privacy Policy. Questions can be sent to support@dearmemory.co.uk.

Changes

These terms may be updated as the service develops. The current version and revision date will be published on this page.
