PRIVACY & SAFEGUARDING

Privacy, dignity and safeguarding approach

DearMemory contains personal stories and photographs. Protecting the person behind those memories matters as much as protecting the account.

Before adding something

  • Consider the person’s wishes, capacity, privacy and likely feelings.
  • Only add material you are entitled or authorised to use.
  • Use the least sensitive detail needed to preserve the memory.
  • Avoid medical records, care plans, passwords and emergency information.
  • Take extra care with children, bereavement, conflict, health and trauma.

While enjoying memories

  • Follow the person’s pace and stop if they appear tired or distressed.
  • Do not insist that a person’s recollection is wrong.
  • Use comforting and favourite labels as family prompts, not clinical judgements.
  • Review who has access and remove access that is no longer appropriate.
  • Keep downloads private and securely stored.

How concerns are handled

Concerns reported to DearMemory are recorded only as far as reasonably necessary to understand and respond. Privacy, account security and potential safeguarding concerns are prioritised. DearMemory may restrict access or preserve relevant records where reasonably necessary to protect a person, investigate misuse or meet a legal obligation.

DearMemory is not able to investigate abuse or provide emergency safeguarding intervention. Where someone may be at immediate risk, contact the emergency services. For non-emergency concerns, contact the appropriate local authority safeguarding service, health professional or established support organisation.

Report a concern

Email support@dearmemory.co.uk with the subject “Safeguarding concern”. Do not include a password or unnecessary sensitive detail. See the Privacy Policy for information about personal data.
