ABOUT DEARMEMORY
About DearMemory
DearMemory is a private family memory space where relatives, partners, friends and trusted people collect meaningful memories for someone they care about.
Sit together. Remember together. It is a simple invitation to enjoy photographs, stories, music and familiar voices side by side.
What belongs in a Memory Room
A Memory Room can bring together:
- family photographs and special occasions
- short memories or longer life stories
- favourite songs and meaningful music
- familiar voice recordings
- family members, friends and people from earlier life
- holidays, homes, workplaces and important places
- dates, life chapters and everyday moments
- a few words that help a memory come alive
You can begin with one photograph, story, song or voice recording. A few words are enough, and more can be added over time.
A private place for family memories
Memories stay within the signed-in DearMemory account and are not published as a public page.
Anyone with access to the signed-in account or device may be able to see its memories, so account details should only be shared with someone you trust.
Authorised administration may occasionally be required for support, security or legal reasons. DearMemory does not currently use family memories for advertising or profiling.
Who DearMemory is for
DearMemory is for people who want to enjoy and preserve meaningful memories together, including:
- a relative creating a Memory Room for a family member
- a partner bringing shared stories and music together
- a friend collecting photographs and familiar moments
- a trusted person helping someone keep their memories close
- families who want a calm place for gentle conversation and connection
It is not limited to a particular diagnosis or stage of life. The focus is the person, their relationships and the memories that matter to them.
How families use DearMemory
The account holder signs up using their own name, then names the Memory Room for the person whose memories are being collected.
Joe creates the account in his own name and creates Margaret’s Memory Room. They can then explore the photographs, stories and music together.
Gentle prompts, kept secondary
Private Notes can hold a personal memory prompt or family observation inside the signed-in account. The main experience remains enjoying memories together.
Urgent health or emergency information should be kept in the appropriate service, not in DearMemory.
Why DearMemory exists
DearMemory was created to make preserving personal memories feel calm, welcoming and uncomplicated. A meaningful moment should not need a complicated form or perfect date.
Its purpose is to encourage connection, enjoyment and gentle conversation while helping families keep important photographs, stories, music and voices together for the future.
What DearMemory is — and is not
DearMemory is a private family memory space. It is not a medical-record system, a care-management platform or a professional care-home system.
A separate future product may serve care homes or professional settings, but that would be distinct from this family DearMemory service.
DearMemory is operated independently by David Williams. For support, email support@dearmemory.co.uk.
A calmer way to explore a life story
DearMemory now brings memories together in several simple ways. The Memory Map shows how familiar people, photographs and stories connect. Prepared Journeys can gently move through a familiar person, comforting favourites or memories from across the years, while Read Aloud can speak names and descriptions using a voice available in the visitor’s browser or device.
Memory Room owners can give trusted relatives, friends or carers their own named access. Permission levels are kept separate: View only, Memory contributor and Family manager. Owners can review or remove access, download a complete private copy and, when needed, arrange a protected ownership handover to an active family manager.
The DearMemory website and all of its services are free to use. There are no subscriptions, fees, paid features or payment details required. It is designed around dignity, familiarity, readable text and calm choices. It remains a family reminiscence service rather than a medical, emergency or professional care-record system.
How is DearMemory funded?
DearMemory is an independent personal project created and currently funded by its founder, David. It does not receive funding from an outside organisation, charity, advertiser or investor.
DearMemory is free to use, and no payment details are required to register. The site does not rely on advertising or the sale of users’ personal information.
